Andy Chan began coaching at Sacred Heart Cathedral (SHC) in 1998, so the 2020-21 school year marks his 25th season as the head cross country and track & field coach. While coaching the Irish, SHC has advanced teams to the State Meet twelve times and along the way captured two CCS Championships and four CCS runner-ups. In 2001, the Irish won the now defunct Girls Private School League (GPSL) title. Chan was a runner at Lowell High School and still runs competitively for the Pamakid Running Club, where he serves as both the club’s president and coach. He earned his undergraduate degree in Physiological Science from UCLA, where he also served as the Bruins cross country and track & field team manager. He earned his master’s degree in sports management from USF in 1999. In 2009 he won the SHC Vincentian Service Award and is a two-time CCS Honor Coach (2005 track & field, 2013 cross country).
