Caesar Smith ‘98 joined the administrative staff of Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in July 2020, as Associate Director of Athletics. His focus is to build on and advance the mission of academic and athletic excellence for all Fightin’ Irish student-athletes. A 1998 Sacred Heart Cathedral graduate, Smith was a two-time All-WCAL and All-Metro performer, member of the ‘95-’96 WCAL Basketball Championship Team, Scholastic All-CIF Selection, while compiling a 58-26 record as a 3-year letterman on the Fightin’ Irish basketball team. He was also an All-League performer at City College of San Francisco and Defensive Player of the Year for the Sonoma State University Men’s Basketball Team. Prior to returning to his alma mater, Smith spent several years teaching and coaching in Texas. He worked as a U.S. Government Teacher, Head Swimming and Diving Coach, and Athletic Department Assistant at East Central High School in San Antonio, TX where he was honored as the 25-6A Girls Diving Coach of the Year. He also served as Head Boys Basketball Coach, Political Science Teacher, and Athletic Department Coordinator at Southwest High School in San Antonio for three years. Smith was honored by the San Antonio Area Basketball Coaches Association and was selected as a coach by the NCAA for their inaugural College Basketball Academy. Additionally, Smith worked as a World Geography Teacher and Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Klein Collins, Wisdom, and Westfield High Schools in Houston. Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts in American Multicultural Studies from Sonoma State University and a Master of Education in Postsecondary Administration & Student Affairs from the University of Southern California. Smith is a Certified Athletic Administrator through the National Interscholastic Athletic administrators Association (NIAAA), Certified & Accredited Interscholastic Coach through the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), Certified Double-Goal Coach through Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), and owns a coaching license through International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Smith is a member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), California State Athletic Directors Association (CSADA), Central Coast Section Athletic Directors Association (CCSADA), World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC), and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
